PRAYER & SPIRITUALITY

Jesus tells us, 'ask, and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you'. He preaches these words to the disciples soon after teaching them the Lord's Prayer.

Prayer is the food of faith. The Hibiscus Coast Catholic Community provides many opportunities to share in this spiritual sustenance.

Prayer Link

This is a group of parishioners who pray for specific needs of anyone, whether Catholic or non-Catholic. Should your need be of an urgent or serious nature, you can either contact the office on 426 5599 or email us. The notice board in each of the two churches has the names of people in our Prayer Link.

Catholic Women's League

CWL is a group of ladies who meet regularly in a social setting to foster friendship and strengthen faith. The motto of the CWL is "Faith and Service". Members gather under the guidance of the Holy Spirit on the second Monday of each month at 1.30pm in St. John's hall, Orewa, to further their faith and be of service within the parish or wherever they are needed. New members would be most welcome. Chairperson: Val Bennett – 426 8233.

Eucharistic Adoration

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament takes place every Monday through Friday in St John's after Mass until 3pm and at St Francis for one hour after Mass every Friday. A roster of volunteers is organized to ensure that there will always be someone present for this wonderful ministry of prayer and adoration. Contact person: Wilma Wouts - 427 4509.

Meditation Group

Meet every Monday at 7.30pm and every Thursday at 4pm in St John's and every Wednesday at 5.30pm in St Francis for a short instruction and 20 minutes of group meditation. It follows John Main's well-known method of using a mantra. Contact Jacqui Driscoll for St John's on 426 8968 and Bertha Casas for St Francis on 428 0988 or visit. www.christianmeditationnz.org.nz.

Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary has a prayerful devotion to Our Lady. The group meets weekly on Wednesdays after morning Mass. They visit parishioners in their homes and visit the sick in hospital. They help out in the parish as and where they are needed. The Legion of Mary is also part of our Caring community - click here. Contact Nenita Wilson - 424 2106.

Prayer for Vocations

The Hibiscus Coast Catholic Community has a tradition of praying for vocations to the priesthood and religious life during the Wednesday Mass.

Recitation of the Rosary

The Holy Rosary is recited weekdays at 9am at St John's and on Wednesdays at 9am and Fridays at 8am at St Francis.

Rosary Statue

The first Immaculate Heart Statue was brought by parishioners to Orewa in 1983. On 6th October 1985, Bishop Dennis Browne DD on a pastoral visit crowned a newly arrived Immaculate Heart Statue as "Queen of Auckland Diocese". This statue has travelled weekly within the parish ever since. Contact Val Bennett 426 8233.

Parish Prayer Group

This prayer group meets at St Francis every Tuesday at 7.30pm in a welcoming and loving way to give praise, thanksgiving and worship to Our Lord. We reflect on "The Word" and through the power of the Holy Spirit we help each other to experience the presence and healing love of God. Contact Barbara Jones 424 1130.

Secular Franciscans

Secular Franciscans are part of the Franciscan Movement. They are ordinary people who study the life of St. Francis of Assisi, and using his example, try and live a good and useful life. The Secular Franciscans invite everyone to meet with them and discern whether you are called by the Spirit of God to become an expression of the Gospel in the manner of St. Francis. The group meet at 7.30pm on the third Thursday of each month at St John's, Orewa, for Mass and a meeting which includes a time of study followed by a time of fraternity. Contact Alec McGinley - 426 5253.

So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; Seek and you will find; Knock and the door will be opened to you.
Luke 11:9
